
PROGRAM
Team S.A.M (Sports. And. Mentoring) is a sports mentoring program administered by the Washington State Leadership Board, designed to enable eligible nonprofit community-based organizations to provide opportunities through grant-based funding for underserved youth to join local sports teams or otherwise participate in the area of sports.
The goals of this program are to:
support youth in building self-confidence by developing skills in the areas of goal setting and collaboration
promote healthy lifestyle choices through forming positive relationships with peers and family
Achieve educational success through leadership and mentoring
Grant Application Information:
Team S.A.M. (Sports And Mentoring) is a grant-based program designed to enable eligible nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based organizations to provide opportunities for underserved youth to join sports teams or otherwise participate in the area of sports.
Application Criteria:
Applicants must be a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status.
Organizations should offer a program designed to encourage underserved youth to either join local sports teams or engage in sports-related activities within the community.
Recipients of the grant will be required to complete and submit a monthly progress report, along with a final grant report.
Grant Allotment: A one-time grant of $5,000 will be awarded to the selected applicant.
Additional Services: Recipients of the grant(s) will have the opportunity to invite their program participants to participate in the monthly WSLB Leadership Training Sessions, specifically focused on leadership development through sports and outdoor activity.
Effective November 1, 2025, the Sports and Mentoring Program, which was a WSLB program, will be discontinued per SB 5444.
